What you need to consider

Prior to speaking to one of our will writers you might want to first think about the following:

• What type of will you want to make?
• Who you would want to inherit from your will and what are they to get?
• Who is going to look after any of your children? (If they’re under 18)
• Would you like to leave anything to charity?
• Who is going to deal with your estate on your death?

These are a good place to start and talk over with your partner if need be. Don’t feel like you need all the answers before you speak to us. If you have any questions, you can ask our advisers prior to, during or after your initial meeting.

What we would advise is that once you have decided on the above questions that you have the full names and addresses of anyone to be named within your will.

Types of Will

There are a few different options available to you, these consist of:

Single Will

A single will is for one person. You can make a single will if you have a partner or not.

Mirror Wills

Mirror wills are two separate legal documents for two people. These wills are commonly used by married and unmarried couples that have very similar wishes about what should be written into their wills.

Trust Wills

A trust can be written as part of your Will. It is usually included to offer a legal structure in which you can protect assets for loved ones. They are most seen in the following circumstances:

• You wish to protect your estate from Excessive inheritance tax bills
• You wish to protect your estate against possible care fees in the future
• You have children from a previous relationship
• You wish to leave some of your estate to a vulnerable or disabled person

Lasting Power of Attorney

A lasting power of attorney is a legal document that allows you to appoint one or more people to act or make decisions on your behalf if you weren’t able to. The people you appoint to manage your affairs are called the attorneys.
